The Pihlqvist Family Home

At the top of our building, a family rents two separate rooms. Come in and have a look!

At the top of our building are two small rooms where a family with two children lived around the year 1900.

The windows face the building’s staircase. Photo: Mattias Ek.

The Pihlqvist family — Charlotta Albertina, Olof, Selma and Gustav — used these rooms as their home and walked up and down the stairs every day.

One room has a tiled stove with a built-in brick oven and two cooking plates. The family used this single room as a living room, kitchen and bedroom because they had little money and limited space.

The Pihlqvist family was fortunate to rent rooms in Södra stadshuset. Although the family lived in very cramped conditions, many people in Stockholm lived in even smaller and poorer homes.

Access

The rooms can only be reached by a steep staircase. They are therefore not accessible for wheelchair users.
